In a year full of video game releases that alone are enough to make any gamer squeal, it’s no longer good enough to be the best single game in a month as it was in 2010- now, if developers want to make a stand, they have to analyse the big titles out in 2011 and find a way to match them. If Mass Effect 3 had that same pressure on it alone, we already know thanks to its 10/10 predecessor BioWare would live up to it. As chance would have it, the pressure is really on from fans to end the massive sci-fi trilogy on a high. We’ve been promised 1000s of our choices in the previous two games will be monitored upon the ME3 disc entering our 360s and/or PS3s, all of which will affect how Shephard’s story ends as he rallies the galaxy’s greatest races to aid humanity and fight back against the Reapers invading Earth. So far, all we’ve got is a teaser, but the thought of heading to a future Earth alone is exciting enough, let alone seeing the repercussions of the deaths of your squadmates on the surviving team, plus finally pursuing the relationships established in the original to their romantic (or heartbreaking?) climax. Yes, if Mass Effect 3 is anything other than the Best Game Of 2011, there’ll be a Mass Effect on the number of fans BioWare has as a result.
