There's nothing this month that can surpass The King's Speech as its best entertainment release. Witty, educational and often moving, Tom Hooper's latest directorial feature was intricately crafted around the superb chemistry between Colin Firth as King George VI and Geoffrey Rush as his voice coach Lionel Logue, forming an utterly compelling rendition of the true story of George's unlikely rise to the throne and his plight to overcome his stammer as the first wartime speech in 1939 beckoned. The King's Speech was also packed with great cameos from stars like Helena Bonham-Carter, Michael Gambon and Timothy Spall (wait a minute, was this actually the next Harry Potter flick?!), each lasting just a few moments (bar Bonham-Carter's role as future Queen Mother Elizabeth) but also quintessentially sublime and key to the film's inspirational messages of hope and trust. If (and possibly when given 2011's packed line-up) another trip to the cinema this year packs in more emotion, comedy and utter devotion to its source context than that found here, the audience (myself included) will be up and in applause for long after the credits roll!
