Clone Wars: Altar Of Mortis Review (4/5)

Last week's Overlords (4.5/5) was always going to be a hard one to top, yet Altar of Mortis went a fair way towards doing so. The second in the three-part Mortis trilogy, in Altar Anakin, Obi-Wan and Ahsoka was forced back onto the surface of the planet they'd been trying to escape as Son tried to lure Anakin to the dark side by possessing his vulnerable apprentice. In a video shown a few weeks back, it looked like Ahsoka's disappearance in Episode III was about to be explained as she supposedly turned on her Master in a fight resulting in her death, but it turns out that clip was just a cheap trick since Ahsoka not only didn't die (properly), she wasn't turning Sith of her own accord either. That aside, there were some memorable setpieces here like the battle of the dark-infected Son and his sister, plus the duel between Anakin and Ahsoka was definitely remarkable (even if the resolution was not that which was anticipated by fans). The animation was as crisp as usual, and with this trilogy of stories we're certainly entering a position where Clone Wars feels like the true Star Wars television show it always should have been- too bad the fictional conflict must be fast approaching its end, so these are probably some of the final chances the programme will have to return its viewers to a galaxy far, far away...
