More Smallville Details Revealed

Speaking on the set of Smallville during the filming of its final episodes, executive producer Kelly Souders has revealed more details of what's to come from April 15th on The CW. Asked on how the relationship of Tom Welling's Clark Kent and returnee baddie Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) will develop in Finale on May 15th, she said "The focus has been about how these guys have impacted each other's lives. I think in the finale our goal is obviously we're launching them towards the future, where they are going to be mortal enemies. But what we didn't want was just a catfight, so we go one step further in making the greatest hero and the greatest enemy we'll ever know". John Glover's villainous father figure Lionel Luthor will team up with Darkseid as hinted recently in Scion, and Souders says we shouldn't expect him to change sides anytime soon: "He's just a bad seed, let's face it. When he interacts with anybody, it's just always bad news, and delicious at the same time." Before that, though, it has been revealed that Lois will gain some of Clark's abilities for a time ("It gives her a lot of insight into him and she has a lot more compassion"), Kara Kent will return ("She really has her own destiny- Supergirl becomes Supergirl and not Superman's cousin"), as will Martha, Jonathan and Chloe in Finale ("If any one of them hadn't shown up and it hadn't worked out, there would have be a feeling of things not being complete"). Souders also teased us that other threads of the Superman lore will come into play as the show ends: "I think if you're a real fan of Perry White and Jimmy Olsen and that whole world [the Daily Planet] in the comics, you'll walk away with a warm, fuzzy feeling" "I'll just say that having John Williams' classic Superman movie score [rumoured to play in the two-hour climax] would make me happier than anything" and to close on a big hint at the possibility of Tom Welling's version of Supes donning the suit "We all know that Smallville has been about the journey to becoming Superman, but I think you'll definitely have a sense of who he is by the time the show is over"! Smallville returns with Kent in the US next Friday.
