WORLD EXCLUSIVE: Mortal Kombat Impressions

Ever played Mortal Kombat? Me neither, but standing outside the 18+ zone at the Gadget Show Live (only a couple of years till I can go hands-on there!), I saw that the latest entry of the series will be visceral, varied and downright bloody, much to the contentment of fans! As ever, things are extremely based around fantasy antics, with fireballs and icicles galore being thrown at the competitors at an alarming rate, and the harmful effects of such attacks prove visibly apparent on your character and/or your enemy, even playing a part in the cinematic that will be shown after the fight. From what I can see, though, there might not be enough depth to make the appeal of the game last longer than a few battles, making this a hard proposition for all but the most dedicated of the series' fanbase- although given that the majority of Mortal Kombat's followers are that dedicated, perhaps NeatherRealm Studios are onto a winner because although it isn't amazing, the game (out next Thursday) looks like the best entry in the franchise yet!
