2011 Most Anticipated Games #6: Sonic Generations

Ever since his 3D adventures started speeding rapidly downhill, Sonic's had a pretty bad reputation among gamers. However, last year a shining beacon of hope came in the form of Sonic Colors, a great Wii exclusive that showcased what SEGA's iconic mascot could do in the right hands and just how brilliant he could be. Already, people are saying that Sonic Generations, a celebratory outing created for Sonic's 20th Anniversary, looks 'too kiddy', but after 2010's sensational offering I have an inkling that we might be in for something truly special. You take control of both the smaller (and notably chubbier) Classic Sonic and the modern incarnation, completing much-loved original courses like the Green Hill and Casino Night Zone either by side-scrolling or for the first time using the modern gameplay, and then try out some of the latest tracks from Adventure, Unleashed and Colors in their original format and now in 2D too. It might all sound a bit confusing here, but rest assured that this will be light on plot and place a heavy emphasis on fast and innovative gameplay. For whatever reason, this franchise has never been for anyone- that said, though, I think Sonic fans and the hedgehog himself are in for a very special birthday present with Generations! Sonic Generations is out this November.
