Is the tide finally starting to turn for this year's entertainment offerings, until now infrequent and varied with the odd exceptions? I'd say yes; we've got a heck of a month coming up, and the thrills and action-packed adventures start right here!
AT THE MOVIES- Take a leap of faith with Sam Worthington in the epic thriller Man On A Ledge, or go beneath the Earth in kids' fantasy Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (sequel to Journey To The Centre of the Earth, see what they did there?) or bend the truth with Adam Sandler on Sky Movies Premiere in this week's new comedy Just Go With It, or even see him on the big screen with Norbit-alike Jack and Jill where, you guessed it, Sandler plays Jack and Jill. Sigh...
GAME ON- New games! NEW GAMES! Sorry, perhaps I got a little over-excited there, but having only had Resident Evil: Revelations release in the past month, it's brilliant to see that Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, Soul Calibur V and Final Fantasy XIII-2 are all on their way this Friday. They're unlikely to make big dents in the UK charts, yet still...NEW GAMES!
SWITCH ON THE TELLY- John Barrowman makes a surprising guest appearance in the fourth episode of hustle; fears arise that Du Plessis is having a mental breakdown in Wild at Heart and we meet an intriguing cast of convicts and their spouses in the opening part of BBC1's Prisoners' Wives.
ON THE SHELVES- The Black Eyed Peas bring us new footage from their recent live tour in their DVD and Blu-Ray United We Stand, the BBC show us their first Dickens bicentenary drama with Great Expectations, Gary Oldman's award-winning turn as George Smiley arrives on disc with Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and you can take a chance on a new Summer comedy, Crazy, Stupid Love.
CRANK UP THE TUNES- Lana De Ray's new album Video Games will retail tomorrow; plus Metallica's Beyond Magnetic and the soundtrack for Sherlock's first season arrive in online and high street stores.
CHRONICLE- This dark comedy superhero film is looking like an exciting new take on a variety of age-old genres, the found-footage style of movie included, so I can't wait to see how Chronicle turns out when it hits cinemas on Friday.
