Filling The Doctor Who Void- News Roundup (1st-15th January)

We've still got a good while until Doctor Who returns to our screens (eight months to be precise), but thankfully things haven't been quiet this past fortnight though the show is off air...
  • BACK INTO THE FIRE(PLACE)?- Rumours are abound that Sophia Myles will be returning to Doctor Who for its upcoming seventh season. The Moff told us to follow Myles on Twitter for reasons which he would "explain later" (a glorious reference to his classic Comic Relief parody, if there ever was one). Sophia played Madame De Pompadour in Series Two (2006)'s The Girl In The Fireplace, and it is believed she will return to the show later this year. Watch this space...
  • BIGGER AND BETTER- Things were sadly pretty quiet on the Series 7 front in this month's DWM, but elsewhere Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith and executive producer Claire Skinner have been teasing the series. Speaking to Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1, Smith said: "We've got another year to do and who knows what after that. There's a long way to go. It's got to get better. That's the key. It has to get better every year." Wise words, and Skinner backs them up by teasing the next two years of fun-filled Who in her interview with io9: "I'm thrilled and slightly daunted by the scale of what we're achieving in the next series. We're not too far away from starting shooting [the start of production is set for February], and I think it's going to be the biggest series ever. At the moment, we're embarking on shooting more episodes than we have done before. But in terms of the schedule, it's just too early to confirm anything. The plans for the anniversary are going to be absolutely huge...2013 is going to be the biggest year in the history of Doctor Who so far!" Well, I'm excited, although I'd like to get a few more concrete details on what format Doctor Who will take in these next few months while the show's away in the February DWM.
  • THE KLAXON MEAT OF VIENNA- Still, the new issue does feature a fun 'Production Notes' from writer Mark Gatiss, who reveals that his Series 7 story features the words 'klaxon', 'meat' and 'Vienna'. Based on the fact Gatiss has given us The Unquiet Dead, The Idiot's Lantern, Victory of the Daleks and Night Terrors, it's interesting to wonder might his next adventure with the Doctor might hold...
  • THE CLOCKS KEEP TICKING- The Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock Twitter feed has promised we'll be getting more info on the new video game (out for PS3, PSVita and PC this Spring) next week, so watch this space!
  • YOUNG SHOWRUNNERS RETURN- There's going to be another round of Doctor Who: Script To Screen later this year, which means we're getting a new script from a school class, and if the hilarious Death Is The Only Answer (which you can see below) is anything to go by, we're in for a treat!
I'll be covering the next fortnight of Who and looking forward to the month of February on January 29th.
