Game Announcements: News Roundup

A huge host of video game announcements arrive just before E3!
In just one day's time, the Electronic Entertainment Expo for 2012 will be upon us. That major video gaming convention will bring it countless game announcements, trailers, demos and hardware reveals, but before it even begins, we've had tons of new gaming announcements in the last two days alone. There are so many of these it's been near overwhelming even for me, so I thought it would be a good idea to round them up here...

  • LucasArts debuted Star Wars 1313 on Spike last Thursday- this will be an action-adventure shooter focusing on a lone bounty hunter in the criminal underworld attempting to take down a seedy organisation called 'Level 1313'. It's an innovative concept, even if it isn't Battlefront III, so keep an eye on Microsoft's conference for more details on the project.
  • Meanwhile, Warner Brothers have confirmed that one of their two tie-ins to this year's anticipated Rings prequel The Hobbit (the other being LEGO The Lord Of The Rings) is Guardians Of Middle-Earth, an online multiplayer fighter similar to Street Fighter but featuring all of the LOTR characters we know and love. It'll be out on PC this Winter.
  • Next up, Bethesda revealed that Doom 3: BFG Edition is on its way to 360, PS3 and PC this Autumn, with HD versions of Doom, Doom 2, Doom 3 and the latter's Resurrection Of Evil packaged into one of the best-value compilations of all time. Look out for more details at E3 this coming week.
  • CD Projekt have also shown off their own new franchise- titled Cyberpunk, this new futuristic series will feature choices similar to the Witcher games and an all-new kind of character system. Details on consoles and release windows have yet to be revealed.
  • On more minor notes, Activision have confirmed that Family Guy: Back To The Multiverse will feature co-op play with Stewey and Brian when it retails this Autumn, and Sony have announced Sports Champions 2 to ship this Winter, a sequel to their hit launch title for the Move peripheral.
  • DC Entertainment and Warner Bros have announced a big new project called Injustice: Gods Among Us. This will be a major side-scrolling 3D fighter featuring some of the most famous DC heroes and villains, shipping for PS3, WiiU and 360 in Q1 2013.
  • Ubisoft have been teasing a new project too, stating that Justice Is Coming at E3 next week. Watch this space (and their conference) for more...
  • Finally- for now, at least, don't expect the silence to last long- Electronic Arts have confirmed that the Need For Speed: Most Wanted franchise is returning under Criterion Games this Autumn, and we'll find out more at E3!
Keep checking back here on the blog and on TechTroid for all of the big E3 news this coming week!
