Rock Week: ROA Movie Soundtrack Review

Does the movie's official soundtrack live up to its inspiration?
Having watched Rock Of Ages up at the West End earlier in the year, I can recall fondly how engaging the new renditions of classic 1980s songs were for a contemporary audience. The production's soundtrack did a great job of showing off some of the innovative ways in which the playwrights resurrected rock classics, so it's interesting to now see the movie's tie-in soundtrack on shelves. Here's a roundup of all of the tracks contained within the package, with the final verdict and score following beneath the list and the best tracks of the CD marked in yellow:
PARADISE CITY- 4.5/5
SISTER CHRISTIAN/NOTHING BUT A GOOD TIME/JUST LIKE PARADISE- 3.5/5
JUKE BOX HERO/I LOVE ROCK & ROLL- 2.5/5
HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT- 3/5
WAITING FOR A GIRL LIKE YOU- 3/5
MORE THAN WORDS/HEAVEN- 2.5/5
WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE- 4.5/5
I WANT TO KNOW WHAT LOVE IS- 5/5
I WANNA ROCK- 3/5
POUR SOME SUGAR ON ME- 2/5
HARDEN MY HEART- 4.5/5
HARDEN MY HEART/SHADOWS OF THE NIGHT- 5/5
HERE I GO AGAIN- 5/5
CAN'T FIGHT THIS FEELING- 4.5/5
ANY WAY YOU WANT IT- 4/5
UNDERCOVER LOVE- 2.5/5
EVERY ROSE HAS ITS THORN- 5/5
ROCK YOU LIKE A HURRICANE- 2.5/5
WE BUILT THIS CITY/WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT- 5/5
DON'T STOP BELIEVIN'- 4.5/5
It is a mixed bunch of tracks, of that I have no doubt, but if you enjoyed the West End production, its soundtrack and/or the now-released film Rock Of Ages, then this is a decent follow-up. You can see the highlights above, although that comes with a warning as all musicals do that you may as a listener have your memories of the original renditions, at which point you may have to deduct a few points. Either way, for fans this is a great chance for more rocking out!
4/5
