Opinion: The Future Of Film- 2014 And Beyond...

Looking ahead to what we can expect post-2013- does the film industry just keep on getting better?

We’re now nearly halfway through the first month of 2013, and already we’ve had some cracking film releases announced and debuted in cinemas. But what lies beyond these illustrious twelve new months for the film industry? To discover this, today’s feature from me will look at the most exciting films of 2014, and indeed then what’s to come in the years beyond the next.
Get ready, then, as we voyage beyond 2013 to the Future Of Film, to discover the best of the best, the movies that will define years to come…
TOP 10 MOST ANTICIPATED FILMS OF 2014
10. Transformers 4 (June)- For all their emphasis on explosions and sometimes-shallow storylines, the Transformers films do at least pack a heck of a lot of action and fun to be had for viewers. Don’t expect Michael Bay’s latest blow-em-up to be here come the end of 2013 when we have more announced new flicks, but for now it at least sounds very promising.
9. Despicable Me: The Minions (December)- A surefire recipe for success, this Despicable Me franchise spin-off places its narrative focus solely on the pure heart of the series’ acclaim: the Minions. Yep, those quirky yellow rascals have got their very own film, and with any luck it should be the best instalment in the hilarious saga yet.
8. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (April)- One of a couple of Marvel Cinematic Universe sequels on the way next, the second Captain America film will focus on a much-loved graphic novel storyline. The Winter Soldier is an intriguing narrative, so its connections to Avengers 2 should be intriguing to see come Spring 2014.
7. Guardians Of The Galaxy (August)-
With names like Drax The Destroyer and Star-Man thrust into the team line-up, Guardians Of The Galaxy was always going to be the riskiest venture of Avengers Phase Two. All the same, the concept art so far has been looking ace, and with Thanos as the potential villain to tie it into the main series, we can probably expect a very special CGI adventure.
6. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 (November)- As many readers of this blog will know, I wasn't quite as big a fan of The Hunger Games as some series diehards were, awarding a 4.5/5 score rather than the 5* a few people might have expected. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to Catching Fire this year, and seeing Mockingjay play out as a two-part season finale starting with this opening instalment.
5. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (May)- Marvel hit onto a surprise winner with The Amazing Spider-Man last Summer, so it's no surprise to see the franchise back for a sequel next year. Could the death of Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy be looming, though, with Mary-Jane, Electro and Harry and Norman Osborn being introduced into the Spider saga and a funeral scene having shot recently? Sadly, it's ages until we even get hints at finding out the truth...
4. LEGO: The Motion Picture (February)- The LEGO brand has gone from strength to strength ever since TT Games kicked off their film-to-game adaptation series, and now we've got an entire movie on live-action characters. LEGO: The Motion Picture boasts a big all-star cast including Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson and Will Ferrell, and thus we can only expect a true hit when it reaches us early next year.
3. Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes (May)- Remember 2011? It feels like ages ago, but it was then when I dubbed Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes my Film Of The Year. Well, now (or rather in eighteen months) comes the fully-fledged sequel, where Caesar and his ape army reign dominant on Earth as humankind is wiped all-but-extinct by its contagion. This should be gripping, philosophical and with any luck controversial stuff!
2. X-Men: Days Of Future Past (June)- Undoubtedly the most exciting superhero film of 2014 has to be the sequel to X-Men: First Class. In Days Of Future Past, characters from both the original X-Men trilogy including Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Professor X (Patrick Stewart) and Magneto (Ian McKellen) team up with their past selves like Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik Lenshrr (Michael Fassbender) to thwart a time-bending dilemma. It's every superhero fan's dream come true!
1. The Hobbit: There And Back Again (July)- No matter what your opinion on The Hobbit becoming a trilogy, there's no doubting that seeing the finale There And Back Again will be a high-octane and captivating experience. You can bet that with the Battle Of Five Armies and the ties this epic finale will have to The Lord Of The Rings trilogy, this could well be the best ultimate instalment in the entire franchise!
2015 AND BEYOND
2015- Two years from now, here's a list of the action-packed movies we're already confirmed to be able to see when 2015 arrives: The Fantastic Four; The Penguins Of Madagascar; The Avengers 2; The Smurfs 3; Hotel Transylvania 2; Star Wars Episode VII; Ant-Man and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1.
2016- And finally? While three years is a long time, especially for the film industry, it's still very exciting to look ahead to what the future holds. Here's the confirmed movie releases so far for 2016: Kung Fu Panda 3; How To Train Your Dragon 3; The Knife Of Never Letting Go; Transformers 5; Avatar 2 and The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Okay, so it's not exactly a huge list so far, but already there's some exciting stuff there, and it's only going to get better...
