Doctor Who 50th Executive Producer Confirmed

Discover who'll take us forward into the 50th Anniversary Special...
The BBC have today announced the name of the woman who'll serve as executive producer on Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary Special later this year. Taking over from 2011-2012 exec Caroline Skinner will be Faith Penhale, the Head of Drama at BBC Wales. Penhale will help oversee the filming and post-production of this epic adventure, penned by Steven Moffat, as Caroline moves to the BBC Drama Production in London to undertake new projects.

Beyond the 50th Anniversary Special, the BBC have confirmed that a new executive producer will be recruited for Season Eight in the weeks ahead. This new member of the production team will join showrunner Steven Moffat and his co-executive Marcus Wilson in helming what could be the Eleventh Doctor's final on-screen adventures in 2014, so whoever next takes up the role once Faith has completed the 50th Special will be in for a big treat and an adventure of their own!

Caroline will continue to serve as executive producer on Mark Gatiss' 50th biopic An Adventure In Space And Time before departing to the BBC Drama Production in London for future projects. Faith assures us that "Caroline leaves the show in good shapes- there's a brilliant new series starting on Easter Saturday and the 50th Anniversary plans are already underway to deliver audiences an unmissable event!"

Doctor Who returns to BBC1 on Easter Saturday, March 30th for a new season of blockbuster adventures. The 50th Anniversary Special will air as part of the show's epic 50th Anniversary celebrations in November.
