Who News: Clara Returns, Plus Whithouse Talks

All the latest on Doctor Who's past, present and future fresh from the interweb...
Every day seems to bring with it a big new announcement of some kind for Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary year now, and today is no different in that respect. We've had a host of exciting news reveals in the past twenty four hours, and as usual it's here where we've got the most accessible format of reading about it. Here's our guide to all of the latest big news:

  • CLARA'S BACK FOR MORE- First up, Jenna-Louise Coleman appeared with Doctor Who exec Marcus Wilson on BBC Radio 5Live today. The actress announced here that she would return as companion character Clara Oswin Oswald in the eighth season of the show since it returned in 2005. Set to air in 2014, Season Eight will likely focus on the aftermath of the 50th Anniversary and Christmas adventures. The Clara mystery should have concluded by the end of this new run, although there's still plenty of potential for more depth in the character. Jenna-Louise also revealed that the production team's filming break will be between June and August, with filming on the Christmas Special and Season Eight resuming in September once Matt's filmed How To Catch A Monster. Marcus also said that the team "wants Matt to stay as the Doctor for as long as possible."
  • TOBY WHITHOUSE ON RUNNING WHO- In the aftermath of Being Human's fifth and final season, rumours have naturally sparked about whether exec Toby Whithouse is considering taking over Doctor Who from Steven Moffat in 2015 after Season Eight. Here's what he had to say: "I have heard the rumours. In terms of what Matt and Steven are planning after the anniversary, I do know the answers to those things, but there is absolutely no way I can tell anyone. Whether this is something the BBC is considering, I genuinely have no idea. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't intrigued by the idea..."
Doctor Who returns to BBC1 on Easter Saturday, March 30th- a full guide to the anniversary season will debut in the Radio Times next week.
