Who News: August BFI Ninth Doctor Screening Announced

The 50th Anniversary celebrations continue, as the latest classic story appearing at the British Film Institute is revealed!
In case you hadn't heard, in order to further this year's Doctor Who 50th Anniversary celebrations, the British Film Institute are running a monthly retrospective on classic tales from the history of the science-fiction drama featuring each of the eleven Doctors. So far, we've had An Unearthly Child, The Tomb of the Cybermen, The Mind of Evil, The Robots of Death, The Caves of Androzani, The Two Doctors and Remembrance of the Daleks broadcast once again at the London venue, each event featuring its own unique Q&A session with classic guest stars after the episodes have aired.

The next two events will see a slight change in schedule, as due to delayed availability of certain stars of the Eighth Doctor TV Movie, its broadcast has been delayed to September. During August, Christopher Eccleston's Ninth Doctor will take to the stage, and today it has been announced which story will be used to represent this 2005 incarnation. The story will be the final outing of the Ninth Doctor, Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways, an acclaimed Season One two-parter by past showrunner Russell T Davies which brought Eccleston's tenure to a close and introduced David Tennant into the fray in its final moments, while introducing the Daleks in full force with the appearance of their Emperor and a battle aboard Satellite Five for the future of the human race.

It seems only apt that such a beloved tale is used to represent such a beloved rendition of the Doctor, especially considering there's only one season of adventures to choose from, and Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways is one of just a few major highlights- Rose, Dalek and Father's Day the others in this reviewer's opinion- from that run. Now all that remains to be seen is which adventures will be chosen in October and November for the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors- in my opinion, Human Nature/The Family of Blood and The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon would both work brilliantly respectively.

Doctor Who's next BFI screening will be Remembrance of the Daleks on Saturday July 27th, with Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways set to air at the BFI Southbank on Saturday August 24th.
