ComicCon: Daleks Confirmed For Doctor Who 50th

The Doctor's greatest foes return for the blockbuster celebratory adventure this November.
The BBC have this week announced that the Daleks will return to feature in Doctor Who's blockbuster 50th Anniversary Special this November. This exciting announcement comes via the Doctor Who production team's ComicCon panel, where a brand new first trailer for the episode revealed that Skaro's most notorious inhabitants will form a part of the celebratory adventure.

Just what can we expect Davros' greatest creations to get up to, then? Reports on the 50th footage glimpsed at ComicCon indicate that their role will be part of a flashback sequence, where we learn more of John Hurt's incarnation of the Doctor and what he did to save the universe "in the name of peace and sanity" during the Time War. The Time Lords were glimpsed battling the Daleks in the trailer, which lends weight to such a theory. There are now strong rumours circulating too that at least one more classic Doctor will feature in the episode, and Steven Moffat seemed to suggest at the panel that we know virtually nothing yet of the episode's plot.

A point of contention and mystery right now is the matter of when UK fans will get to witness the trailer glimpsed by ComicCon fans in San Diego. The anger of some fans is understandable, yet it's important to note that plenty of fanbases only had exclusive access to footage of UK and US productions alike at ComicCon, and that this is a trend that will continue on an annual basis so long as the event proves popular over in the States. A new trailer for An Adventure In Space And Time, Mark Gatiss' BBC2 biopic, was aired at the panel too, and having witnessed a leaked version of that, I can assure you that the much anticipated docu-drama should be well worth the wait come November!

Doctor Who returns for its blockbuster 50th Anniversary Special on BBC One, BBC America and in cinemas worldwide on November 23rd.
