With the pilot episode broadcast at their panel, the ABC and Marvel team reveal more on Agents of SHIELD.ABC Studios have this week unveiled new details on their upcoming fantasy television drama Marvel's Agents of SHIELD. Following in the wake of the events of Marvel's Avengers Assemble, this new series of twenty-two episodes features SHIELD's Agent Coulson assembling his own team of heroes, devoid of super powers but compensating in great intelligence and unity.
Speaking directly from their ComicCon panel, where the pilot episode of the show was broadcast ahead of its worldwide Autumn premiere, the production team gave a few more tasty teasers of what's to come. Here's our full round-up on the matter:
- COULSON LIVES!- Attending the panel was none other than Clark Gregg, famed for his role as Agent Phil Coulson in Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor and Marvel's Avengers Assemble. Of course, Coulson seemingly was killed off by writer Joss Whedon in the latter motion picture, so discovering the truth of his resurrection should prove one of the show's most intriguing mysteries. We're told to "wait until Episode 2" for more details on why Coulson was "only dead for eight seconds"...
- COBIE RETURNS!- An exciting exclusive announcement at the Agents ComicCon panel was that Cobie Smaulders will reprise her role as SHIELD's Agent Maria Hill in the pilot episode of the show. Fans in attendance had the chance to see Smaulders' cameo, and we'll see her back in action later this year, but whether she or indeed Samuel L Jackson will crop up in later instalments remains to be seen. Certainly, Whedon and the team seem keen on those ideas.
- AND DEADPOOL...Is still more dead than pool. While X-Men Origins: Wolverine's Ryan Reynolds wants to reboot his character with a new spin-off film, Joss Whedon has only this to say on whether the fourth wall-breaking mutant will appear in Agents: "That's Level 7 data, classified...but probably not."
Marvel's Agents of SHIELD premieres on ABC on September 24th, with a UK broadcaster and debut yet to be announced.
