Doctor Who: The Fourth Doctor Time Capsule Announced

Fourth Doctor Time Capsule
BBC Worldwide reveals just what #thefourth has been teasing this week...
BBC Worldwide have today announced the release of Doctor Who: The Fourth Doctor Time Capsule, a commemorative 50th Anniversary set focusing on the Fourth Doctor, later this month. The reveal comes after two intriguing teaser trailers with the Twitter hash-tag #thefourth were released onto the web during the past week.

This new set of DVDs and memorabilia features a host of exclusive and advance releases. Firstly, the upcoming DVD release Terror of the Zygons is included here months ahead of its September release, as is Simon Messingham's novel Tomb of Valdemar, which was unannounced up until this point and features the Fourth Doctor in the midst of his quest for the Key to Time. On top of those advance releases, there'll be a replica of the fourth incarnation's sonic screwdriver, a host of sepia-inspired photos of the character's various companions, an exclusive Fourth Doctor post-regeneration action figure, a new DVD interview with Tom Baker, a letter from the man himself and an audiobook version of the classic adventure Genesis of the Daleks within the Gallifreyan box-set.

It seems fair to say that the Time Capsule should serve as an inspiring introduction to the Fourth Doctor era for new fans, and indeed a fitting celebration of this beloved incarnation for those fans lucky enough to have witnessed his adventures firsthand. Whether the £60 RRP is a little expensive for what's on offer here, especially considering that the Regeneration boxset of nine Doctor Who adventures retailed for around the same price, is up to debate, but I'm sure there'll be a strong degree of interest for a standalone 50th Anniversary set such as this!

Doctor Who: The Fourth Doctor Time Capsule materializes at DVD retailers everywhere on July 29th.
