Avatar 4, Franchise Strategy Announced

If waiting for simply two new journeys to Pandora wasn't agonizing enough, then congratulations!
20th Century Fox have today announced the production of Avatar 4 as part of a newly restored structural franchise strategy for their hit fantasy film franchise. The news comes as the distributors and director James Cameron confirm a variety of updated details regarding the previously announced second and third instalments in the series.

Right then, down to business- let's get those key details on what's happening next in the realms of Avatar right here with no needless delays. First up, James Cameron's reasoning for adding yet another trip to Pandora into his logbooks- "In writing the new films, I've come to realise that Avatar's world, story and characters have become richer than I ever anticipated, and it became apparent that two films would not be enough to put everything I wanted on screen." If we decompose this statement of pure artistic integrity, then the cynics among us might reason that similar to how the announcement of The Hobbit: There and Back Again by Peter Jackson last Summer seemed fuelled by Warner Brothers' desire for a new trilogy, so too could this decision be more motivated by financial prospects of gain rather than that aforementioned integrity.

Nevertheless, that's the situation, and on the brighter side Cameron has called in some help from the outside world to expand his vision in future instalments. The new writers on board to co-scribe the three new scripts are Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds), Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) and Shane Salerno (Savages), each of whom are likely to be assigned one of the three sequels to aid Cameron in the midst of development. It is planned that the three motion pictures will be shot simultaneously so as to allow for rapid annual releases in the years following 2015.

Avatar 2 lands in cinemas worldwide in December 2016, Avatar 3 rounds off the trilogy in December 2017 before Avatar 4 opens up the universe of Pandora for new adventures in December 2018.
