Unexpected as it may be, in the midst of Gamescom alongside the wealth of video gaming reveals we've had a tonne of television and film news come to light. Paramount to these developments have been Marvel Studios, arguably the spearhead of such announcements with plenty of their own content to reveal this week.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Marvel's Agents of SHIELD and more franchises all have roles to play in our definitive round-up of everything that could possibly make a fan scream "Excelsior!"...
- CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER SYNOPSIS RELEASED- Marvel Studios have this week unveiled a new textual synopsis for their upcoming superhero film sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Set a year after the events of Avengers Assemble, this follow-up focuses on Steve Rogers' quest to be integrated into a modern day America. Here's the synopsis: "After the cataclysmic events in New York with the Avengers, we find Steve Rogers- aka Captain America- living quietly in Washington, DC, and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a SHIELD colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Cap and the Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy- the Winter Soldier."
- AGE OF ULTRON VILLAIN DETAILS REVEALED- Joss Whedon has provided a few more hints on how Avengers: Age of Ultron's antagonist will be adapted and manipulated in order to give the World's Greatest Heroes their greatest challenge yet. Here's what the man behind Avengers Assemble had to say on the matter: "I have to ground Ultron while still evoking that guy. We'll take away some of his powers because otherwise at some point everybody becomes magic, and I already have someone who's a witch!"
- AGENTS OF SHIELD UK BROADCASTER ANNOUNCED- Finally, and perhaps most thrilling of all, we now know which UK channel will broadcast Marvel's Agents of SHIELD this Autumn. It's Channel 4, a terrestrial broadcaster, which should come as an immensely exciting surprise for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe who are not in possession of a Sky Digital box right now. Only one month now until the games begin, then.
Marvel's Agents of SHIELD explodes onto Channel 4 this October, Captain America: The Winter Soldier ricochets into cinemas worldwide on April 4th, 2014 and Avengers: Age of Ultron assembles across the world's box office auditoriums on May 1st, 2014.
