Sleeping Dogs: Triad Wars Announced

After a lucky break enabled commercial success for Sleeping Dogs in 2012, can lightning strike twice?
Square Enix have this week announced the development of Sleeping Dogs: Triad Wars for release in the near future. A spiritual successor to United Front Games' underwhelming open-world shooter Sleeping Dogs (5/10), this second contribution to the GTA-dominated genre will inhabit the same universe as its predecessor.

That's pretty much all of the news we have to go on regarding the project at this stage. As readers of the blog may have worked out by now, Square Enix don't tend to be particularly revelatory when it comes to new video games announcements, and their unveiling of Triad Wars has proven to be no less elusive. More details on the title are promised early next year, but for now we can at least hope that the premise of the next instalment in the franchise prompts a more well-rounded and consistently innovative product to be created for fans. With Grand Theft Auto V having succeeded spectacularly in terms of both criticism and sales, the stakes are significantly higher in terms of what UFG will have to achieve here.

Sleeping Dogs: Triad Wars will retail for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PC in 2014.
