Expose: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Review

The surprise hit of 2013- do NOT miss Catching Fire under any circumstances!
Our second film review Expose link post is particularly special, since I'm here introducing a fantasy sequel which has caught me completely off guard. Despite The Hunger Games: Catching Fire's novelised source material being the strongest entry in Suzanne Collins' series, until this moment it would have been impossible to imagine that the film adaptation could match its inspiration.

And yet Catching Fire does that and far more besides, in many senses eclipsing its source thanks to the screenplay adding substantial depth to many previously neglected characters (Effie and Haymitch are both more layered here). On-Screen's score for the follow-up is a major surprise, the flick ranking at an incredible 5*. Keep in mind that this is only our third 5* score awarded to a film in 2013, Les Miserables and Gravity currently the only other major Film of the Year contenders at present. If anything, Catching Fire has proved that nothing is certain until the very last moment, and so the potential for Saving Mr Banks or The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug to scoop up the crown either isn't as limited as we might have initially thought...
