BBC One Announce New 20th Century Literary Adaptations

Classic literary works from the likes of D.H. Lawrence and J.B. Priestly will be brought to life on the small screen next year!
The BBC have announced the production of a series of new televised literary adaptations for broadcast in the not too distant future. Based loosely on printed texts which were published during the 20th Century, the standalone dramas will no doubt integrate many of the finest British and international thespians whose numbers the studio have in their phone-book at present.

Let's not dawdle, then- here's a round-up of what we know so far about each of the four recently-announced adaptations...
  • Lady Chatterley's Lover- Jed Mercurio (the head writer of BBC One's hit police series Line of Duty) will pen the script of this adaptation of D.H. Lawrence's 1928 romantic drama.
  • An Inspector Calls- More than any of the other fine literary works included on this list, we'd imagine that J.B. Priestley (boy, did 20th Century writers love to use their initials!)'s beloved post-war family theatrical drama will lend itself most easily to a TV adaptation, particularly as director Aisling Walsh (Wallander) will have numerous stage productions to call upon whilst crafting her rendition.
  • The Go-Between- Moving forward to the Fifties, we reach L.P. Hartley's 1953 love tale The Go-Between, a gripping yarn which has already inspired a number of film, TV and radio adaptations (the most recent example of the latter being BBC Radio 3's 2013 production), and which in its latest form will be penned by The Musketeers scribe Adrian Hodges.
  • Cider with Rosie- Last but not least is a deeply moving First World War novel penned at the close of the Fifties (1959, to be precise) by Laurie Lee. Cider with Rosie will be helmed by Ben Vanstone, and given that the original novel was but the first instalment in a trilogy, don't be too surprised to hear of a TV sequel or two if the initial broadcast goes down a storm!
Lady Chatterley's Lover, An Inspector Calls, The Go-Between and Cider with Rosie will air on BBC One in 2015.
