New Doctor Who Comic-Book Companions Announced

Geronimo! Prepare for new escapades with the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors this Summer.
IDW Comics and BBC Worldwide have today announced two new fictitious companions set to feature in future comic-strips based on the BBC's beloved science-fiction drama Doctor Who. The news follows the début of the Twelfth Doctor on our screens last Christmas, a new and daring incarnation of the Time Lord who will make his first appearance in IDW's ongoing range of Who graphic novels closer to the time of his first full season of televised adventures.

For now, then, we're staying focused on Doctors from days gone by, specifically the Tenth (played by David Tennant from 2006-2009) and Eleventh (played by Matt Smith from 2010-2013) versions of the eternal extraterrestrial. The former will be joined by Gabriella Gonzalez, a Latino laundress who collides with the Doctor in the midst of the Day of the Dead celebrations in a post-Season Four multi-part narrative, and the latter will come face to face with a recently-motherless young woman named Alice Obiefune shortly after the events of the 2010 season finale The Big Bang. Previous arcs in the US Doctor Who comic-book range have involved crossovers with other sci-fi franchises such as Star Trek and plenty of classic Doctors, so don't expect anything to be off limits when the series returns in graphic form...

IDW's Doctor Who comic-strips will continue with new issues in the Tenth and Eleventh Doctor ranges starting from July 23rd.
