The Last of Us: Remastered Announced

Or should that be The Last But One Of Us? No, of course it shouldn't, we apologise.
Sony Computer Entertainment and Naughty Dog Inc. have this week announced the development of a PlayStation 4 version of their hit 2013 third-person-shooter video game The Last of Us. Titled The Last of Us: Remastered, the up-scaled re-release will feature both the award-winning original campaign and the recently-released single-player DLC campaign Left Behind.

In our first 'Opinions Omnibus' feature article last month, we speculated that BioWare's supposed development of a Mass Effect trilogy boxset for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 could lead to a slippery slope scenario whereby creative innovation was sidelined in favour of commercially-assured nostalgia packages such as these HD remakes. That said, this writer will unashamedly admit that he never had the chance to play The Last of Us due to its PS3 exclusivity, and with the PS4 being this writer's console of choice for next-gen, the opportunity to do so for the first time is enticing to say the least. Granted, it's all but guaranteed that Naughty Dog are hard at work on a totally original project simultaneously (and rightly so), but until details of that particular product come to the surface, this should act as a more than worthy stop-gap entry.

The Last of Us: Remastered launches exclusively on PlayStation 4 this Summer.
