Halo 5: Guardians Announced

Source: CNET
Your Halo journey (and 343 Industries', for that matter) continues on Xbox One next year!
Microsoft Game Studios and 343 Industries have this week announced the development of Halo 5: Guardians for release in the not too distant future. Set shortly after the events of 2012's fun-but-not-spectacular Halo 4 (developed by 343, who are also at the helm this time around), the latest chapter in the acclaimed franchise of first-person-shooter video games will see the Master Chief investigating the source of a mysterious data chip and discovering dark secrets about the galaxy that he thought he knew along the way.

What's more, the first major promotional image for Guardians (shown above) seems to hint at a radical shake-up for the Halo series in 2015. Not only will the Chief have to tackle a deadly new threat which will surely put the entire universe at risk (again), it appears that he won't be the central protagonist of the single-player campaign either. The promo image itself looks as close to the potential box-art as we're likely to get until closer to the game's launch, and if we're to take anything from it, we'd wager that the fact that a new male character stands atop the title's logo will be telling of his prominence in its narrative. Let's just hope that any inevitable co-operative modes which spawn as a result of the dual heroes adorning the cover will match the insanely high quality benchmark established by Combat Evolved, Halo 3 and (to some extent) ODST rather than replicating the failures of Halo 2 and Reach.

Halo 5: Guardians will finish the fight (just kidding, but seriously, will it ever end?) exclusively on Xbox One in Autumn 2015.
