Xbox Games with Gold June 2014 Titles Announced

Source: New Egg
Dark Souls, Street Fighter and more beloved titles come to the multi-generation freebie service...
Microsoft Game Studios have this week announced the video games which will feature in their ongoing Games with Gold scheme next month. Whilst the programme was previously limited to Xbox Live Gold subscribers who owned an Xbox 360, in June a pair of titles will be uploaded for Xbox One players to download free of charge.

For those sticking to their current-generation console, three best-selling products await them in the coming weeks. They are Dark Souls, a tough-as-nails role-playing game which harkens back to the days of Final Fantasy and The Legend of Zelda in its unforgiving approach to puzzles and combat; Charlie Murder, an incessantly violent yet undeniably intelligent RPG developed by Ska Studios and Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, the definitive version of a no-holds-barred fighter which is now regarded as amongst the best entries in its genre.

Meanwhile, anyone who's converted to the next-generation of video gaming will be able to grab ahold of two XBLA products without any danger of feeling their wallets lighten in the process. First up is Halo: Spartan Assault, an innovative top-down real-time-strategy experience which bridges the events of 2007's Halo 3 and 343 Industries' 2012 follow-up Halo 4. Once you're done with that, there'll still be Max: The Curse of Brotherhood, a 2D side-scroller which falls somewhere in-between New Super Mario Bros and Limbo (though we realise that those two could be perceived as polar opposites within the context of their genre!) in its valiant efforts to ground and refresh the platforming genre for a modern day audience.

The only catch? Although Xbox 360 players will be able to experience their free content regardless of whether or not their Xbox Live Gold subscription is still running, the Xbox One Games with Gold service will require its participants to have an active Gold account in order to do so. The latter group will apparently gain access to "free games ranging from top hits to breaking indie stars" in months to come, but whether consumers will be content with their freebies only arriving on a temporary basis depending on their subscription's longevity remains to be seen.

Dark Souls, Charlie Murder, Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, Halo: Spartan Assault and Max: The Curse of Brotherhood will be integrated into the Games with Gold service this June.
